WHAT SHOULD YOU VISIT IN DUINO?

TWO CASTLES

Duino is home to two castles, both perched dramatically on seaside cliffs overlooking the Adriatic Sea. The "younger" castle dates back to the 15th century, while the "older" one, now in ruins, was built about 500 years earlier.

THE LEGEND OF THE WHITE LADY

The ruins of the older castle are tied to the tragic legend of the White Lady (la Dama Bianca). This mysterious tale speaks of love, jealousy, and loss, and the story still captivates visitors today. During the guided tour this legend will be unveiled.

THE YOUNGER CASTLE

The "younger" castle is the residence of the noble von Thurn und Taxis family, who have lived here for over 350 years. Beautifully restored after damage during World War I, it features stunning terraced gardens, breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea, and a rich history that adds to its charm. The father of the todays owner founded next door the prestigious private international College del Mondo Unito dell'Adriatico

THE RILKE PATH

The Sentiero Rilke is a scenic 2-kilometer trail above the cliffs between Duino and Sistiana. Named after the poet Rainer Maria Rilke who was inspired by the castle in his work. it offers stunning views of the sea and the natural beauty of the limestone landscape.
