THE CHURCH SS PAOLO EN PIETRO

​

The village was built in ancient times near a ford which made it possible to cross the rivers Tagliamento and Meduna. It used to be surrounded by walls and provided protection to the many pilgrims who stayed here to rest or get medical help in the tiny little hospital, now converted into a church. In this Church called SS Pietro Paolo you can see frescoes of Saints that are known for healing people, this is because once it was a hospital.

In the center stands the imposing Cathedral Santissimo Corpo di Cristo. Beautifully constructed with two different colors of marble, pink and white. The church was said to be built thanks to a legend. Inside you just have to see the magnificent and original 16th century organ.

THE 'DUOMO SS. CORPO DI CRISTO' WITH ITS 16TH CENTURY ORGAN

In the center stands the imposing Cathedral Santissimo Corpo di Cristo. Beautifully constructed and painted in the colors pink and white. There is an interesting legend connected to the construction of the cathedral.

Not far from this place a miracle happend in the 13th century. While a woman was washing a cloth of the altar of another nearby church, she noticed that blood was flowing from the hostia that was accidentally left inside the cloth. To celebrate this miracle the noble family who lived in the castle decided to build, at his own expense, the current cathedral to protect this holy relic.

 

Inside this church you can admire the famous and still functional 16th century organ. On certain occasions the organ is still played. The shutters for the organ are painted by Pomponeo Amalteo, the son of the famous Renaissance painter "Il Pordenone".

 

THE CASTLE AND HISTORICAL CENTER

The medieval town is small and can be visited in a few hours. The 13th century castle can only be visited on appointment for groups.

 

Around the square there are some nice old things to see such as the old washing area where once women washed their laundry in the River Roggia. There is also a small water mill. The Roggia used to be much wider and formed the canal around the old city walls.
